5 Benefits of Performing a Functional Medicine Detox


What is a functional medicine detox? A true FM detox, will help detoxify your liver. Why the liver? The liver is the body’s largest detoxification organ. It’s job is to filter harmful toxins. When the liver gets overloaded, it cannot perform its job (detoxification) as efficiently. When the liver cannot adequately detoxify the harmful toxins, what happens? Stress to other areas of the body – this is when you may experience fatigue, headaches, thinning hair, brain fog, digestion issues and the list goes on.   1. Digestive System Rest: Sticking to a strict diet as well as eating schedule during the detox will allow your digestive system to rest. When the digestive system is resting; it opens up a whole host of benefits to your body – Literally your body is spending less energy on digestion and able to provide more energy to other areas of the body – You will feel the increase in energy (not getting into benefits of fasting here), less bloating and improved clarity.
  2. Lower toxic Load: the whole idea is to lower your body’s toxic load to allow the liver to do its job (detoxification) more efficiently. Liver works more efficiently = less chance for overload = less chance of developing/experiencing symptoms.

Feel the Difference: A lot of people know what they are eating out of a box or bag is processed and not good for them – BUT they don’t know how they feel by cutting them out and adapting a cleaner diet. I grew up on all of the highly processed snacks, lunch meat, freezer food, and juice/soda like most people – So I never knew how it would feel to cut them out.
